灰色のマトリョーシカ　
昨日〔2012年5月10日（木）〕の毎日新聞夕刊に、標記サブタイトルを冠した記事が掲載されていた。

著名小説家である浅田次郎氏が、日本ペンクラブ会長としてチェルノブイリに赴いた際の事を記した記事。

事故から26年経った今、原子炉を覆ったコンクリートの石棺が劣化して放射能が漏れだしているという。そして現在行われている作業は、その巨大な石棺をさらに覆う石棺の構築なのだそうだ。しかも、その工事に従事しているのは、おしなべて、その原発事故を知らない若い世代。

そして何十年後かには、三つ目の石棺が作られることになるのだろう、と浅田氏は言う。

しかして、その「灰色のマトリョーシカ」を作り続ける工事には、親ですら原発事故を直接経験していない世代が従事するわけだ。
浅田氏は締めくくる。「帰途の機内で眠られるまま考えた。科学の進歩とともに、われわれは退行したのではないか、と。もし原子力開発にふさわしい叡智が備わっているのなら、今のこのときに再稼働の議論など、まじめに戦わされるはずはないからである。」

It was the one that Mr. Jiro Asada, an well-known novelist in Japan, described based upon the visit to Chernobyl as the chairman of the Japanese Centre of the International PEN.Now, after 26 years later of the accident, it is said that the radioactivity has been leaking because of the collapsing of its concrete cover. And now, covering the huge collapsing concrete with fresh one seems to have been done. Furthermore, the workers are, almost, young generations who don’t know the nuclear accident directly.
Decades later, the third concrete cover would be built, Mr. Asada said.
Accordingly, a younger generation whose parents wouldn’t have experienced the accident are to work to build the ”Gray Matryoshka”, Russian nesting doll.
The chairman of the environmental commission of the Centre told in the article, “I realized that the idea of decontamination had become illusion because radioactivity could never extinct as it only moved from mountains to plains or to rivers.
Mr. Asada concludes. “I had thought over in the airplane on my way back to Japan as I was not able to sleep. I supposed that we had been going back contrary to the scientific development. It is because, I’m sure, if we could have had a wisdom enough to develop nuclear technology, we should have never discuss the restart of nuclear reactors so seriously.”
